New Orleans Sinking Faster Than Thought

New Orleans sinking

New Orleans sinking faster than first anticipated. This article describes the economic and urban planning impacts of not knowing well enough how the Earth behaves and changes. With the help of satellite technology - that is based and built on space geodesy - we can now observe with greater accuracy the subsidence ( or sinking) of the crust.

Depending on where you are on the planet you can experience crustal uplift or as in the case of New Orleans, subsidence. Subsidence can both be naturally induced or the result of human constructions like heavy buildings, ground water extractions etc.
