German Geodesy

German Geodesy Research Institute

Geodesy is the science of determining the earth's geometry, kinematics, gravity
field, and their evolution in time.

At the Deutsches Geodetiches Forschungsinstitut's website you can get information about some of the most important topics within geodesy today. There are several other institutes around the world, but this institute site is pretty tidy. It is however easier to learn about geodesy on Geodetic Journey, if you are totally new to the field.

This illustrates more (than the Lego model on the previous post) the complexity of the system Earth and what we need to monitor it's behavior.
