Wafer of the element germanium, a semiconductor that is used in solar power cells.



Germanium wafers are expensive so maximum use of the material is a key factor. So far it is mainly spacecrafts that use this material, but with a new cutting technique that economize the production of these solar cells, we might get to use them here on Earth as well.

It is just a matter of time before we'll stop talking about solar energy as alternative energy. It'll be just another natural energy resource. The more energy effective and cheap the technology gets, the closer we get to that state. The development of solar energy technology has improved tremendously over a very short period.
