Stellare is desperately seeking the Sun



Yes, the only thing I can possible think of right now is the Sun. The Sun. The SUN! It might have something to do with the fact that we loose daylight with a raging speed these days. I can barely make a run in the woods after work now since the Sun disappears so fast and it gets too dark. And I have always defined "dark" to be much much later than my mother did, when I was a kid and had to be in before dark...

I hope you'll appreciate this "lil" sunspot. I miss them too. Because I am all ready for violent aurora borealis now! :-)

The dark spot is dark just because it is cooler than the surroundings. In case you wondered.

Solar Filaments

Filaments are formed in magnetic loops that hold relatively cool, dense gas suspended above the surface of the Sun. We call the same phenomena prominences when we see it from the side. The name is defined by the angle with which we look at the Sun. As you can see they are huge!

The reason why they have a darker color than the rest of the sun disk, is because of the lower temperature.
