A Green Sun
Messing with our Local Green Space and Green Earth. At least the GPS satellites suffers from solar outburst like huge flares similar to the one we see above.

Galileo on Environment

Galileo - Europe's Global Navigation Satellite System
It is not that I dislike green, but rather that I LOVE blue and I get so sick and tired of everything called green. Why not blue? After all a clean and healthy OCEAN is environmental even more than the green you find on the continents covering merely 30 % of this planet's surface anyways. I'm just saying....before I give you GreenDrive. :-) Call it BlueDrive and I'll buy several for my car!
GreenDrive advises the driver on the most economical driving style to use, when to accelerate, when to break, and when to keep the speed. This is done on mobile phones and personal navigation devices.

Galileo and GLONASS
This Global Navigation Satellite System is composed by both Galileo satelllites and GPS satellites. 'GPS', or rather GNSS, receivers and the augmentation system in Norway can receive signals from both GPS and GLONASS now. In the future I believe all nations will be able to receive signals from all the global systems on their receivers.
GPS Dog

"Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin watches his dog Koni that wears a GPS device on its collar in the Novo-Ogaryovo residence outside Moscow."
Koni (Connie) live
So actually I'd say GNSS on Putin's dog. It is definitely not GPS, though. :-)

Satellite Navigation
Credit: NASA/ESA/SOHO
A radiation storm is recorded by the SOHO spacecraft Friday, Sept. 9. The white speckles are caused by protons striking the craft's digital camera: The camera has a device that blocks out the Sun itself.
I remember particularly the event in September 2005 (see image above) when several GPS satellites were non-functional and the GPS system suffered from lack of signals.

GPS Applications
GPS beyond your wildest dreams.
The atmosphere alters the path of GPS signals that is being sent through it, hence we get information about the medium. We already have GPS applications within atmospheric research, the next generation of applications will be even more sophisticated - like a new thermometer. :-)
